Dave Barry, Author

The New York Times has pronounced Dave Barry "the funniest man in America." But of course that could have been on a slow news day when there wasn't much else fit to print. True, his bestselling collections of columns are legendary, but it is his wholly original books that reveal him as an American icon. Dave Barry Slept Here was his version of American history. Dave Barry Does Japan was a contribution to international peace and understanding from which Japan has not yet fully recovered. Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys is among the best-read volumes in rehab centers and prisons. Raised in a suburb of New York, educated in a suburb of Philadelphia, he lives now in a suburb of Miami. He is not, as he often puts it so poetically, making this up.

Ridley Pearson, Author

Ridley Pearson (www.ridleypearson.com), the first American to be awarded the Raymond Chandler/Fulbright Fellowship in Detective Fiction at Wadham College, Oxford University, is the bestselling author of over 50 novels including, Peter And the Starcatchers (co-written with Dave Barry), The Kingdom Keepers series, and two dozen crime novels including: Probable Cause, Beyond Recognition, Killer Weekend, The Risk Agent, and The Red Room. His novel The Diary Of Ellen Rimbauer, a prequel to a Stephen King miniseries, was a New York Times #1 bestseller, and a ABC TV movie (2009).

From the Executive Director

Dear Audience,

I am so excited to welcome you to RRCP’s production of Peter and the Starcatcher. This show holds a special place in my heart, not only because I’ve had the privilege of serving as producer but also because I’ve had the opportunity to work so closely with an incredible group of people who brought this production to life. I’m deeply thankful for our amazing crew, who worked tirelessly to create magic on and off the stage. A special thank-you goes to our director, Michael, and our Music Director, Lauren, for their dedication to fostering a supportive environment for the cast to learn, take risks, and grow as artists.

Peter and the Starcatcher is a Tony-winning play written by Rick Elice, based on the best-selling novels by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Serving as a prequel to the beloved Peter Pan story, the play takes us on a thrilling adventure with an orphan boy and a clever, determined girl named Molly. Together, they face perilous challenges, including a crew of pirates led by the eccentric and cunning Black Stache, all while protecting a mysterious trunk with extraordinary powers. It’s a story packed with fun, courage, and imagination.

When we chose this production, our team felt the story’s themes and humor would connect with audiences of all ages. We were also drawn to the creative possibilities of presenting this show in our intimate Blackbox theater. On a personal note, I was especially thrilled for us to explore a comedy. Between the over-the-top villain, a massive crocodile, and some delightfully quirky mermaids, there’s so much to enjoy. While the play is undeniably funny, it also has a touching emotional core. Watching our actors rehearse, I was unexpectedly moved by the depth they brought to their characters. Moments like Alf’s kindness and bravery, Boy's struggles with love and loss, and the recurring theme of selflessness resonated with me in ways I hadn’t anticipated.

This production is full of laughs, heart, and a sense of wonder.

Thank you for being here today to support the talented performers and crew who poured their passion into this show. It means the world to us to have you as part of our audience. We hope you find yourself laughing, reflecting, and maybe even feeling inspired by the journey of these characters. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Warmly,
