Teen Scene Study is the ideal acting class for teens seeking to develop their acting skills and confidence in a fun, supportive environment. This program focuses on exploring scene work, helping students develop a deeper understanding of character, dialogue, and storytelling. Designed specifically for teens, the studio offers a collaborative space where participants can refine their craft while working alongside their peers. Whether you're new to acting or already experienced, this class is a perfect way to build connections, advance your craft, and stay involved in the arts community this fall.

Want to take your performing skills beyond your school’s stage? This three hour workshop will take you through the ins and outs of finding acting work in southern Maine and beyond. Learn how to craft a resume, how to select the perfect headshot, what to do at an audition, where to find casting calls, and more!

Join us for a fun-filled semester where children ages 7-10 can turn their creative ideas into lively performances. Students will work independently or in teams to develop their own plays from start to finish, sharpening their skills in storytelling, acting, and teamwork. Throughout the semester, they'll enjoy engaging activities designed to inspire and entertain. Be part of the excitement and watch your ideas come to life on stage!

Adult Ensemble is designed for students who have a foundational understanding of theater and wish to further develop their skills. This course offers a comprehensive exploration of performance techniques, character development, and script analysis. Students will engage in various exercises and activities that enhance their abilities in voice, movement, and improvisation. Through scene study and collaborative projects, participants will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and creativity in a supportive environment. This class encourages students to challenge themselves, refine their craft, and gain confidence in their artistic expression.

Through games and activities, your young performer will learn acting, singing, and dancing in a supportive and nurturing environment. No prior experience needed—just a love for performing. Help them take their first steps into the world of musical theater today!

Step confidently into the spotlight with our Act Two Musical Theater Ensemble! This 10-week program is crafted to nurture creativity, self-expression, and confidence in young actors aged 11-17. Participants gain valuable skills like acting, singing, and dancing while experiencing the joy of performing. Every session brings an opportunity to explore scenes and songs from beloved Broadway hits, helping students develop a love for collaboration and teamwork. Whether enhancing prior experience or serving as an introduction to the art of musical theater, this class offers the perfect platform to grow as both performers and individuals.

Intro to Theater offers a weekly one-hour class designed for those intrigued by the performing arts, eager to enhance their acting skills, or seeking new social connections. Participants will delve into fundamental acting techniques, engage in improv games, acting exercises, and monologue work.

Toybox Theater is all about finding ways to bring stories and characters to life through only the items we can find in a toy box! Oftentimes we forget that “play” is such a huge part of theater! This class is centered around finding toys and other random objects and using our imaginations to connect them to various stories and characters! Students in this class will have the opportunity to work together on picking a story, deciding what elements of the story are told through the use of toys and objects, and will result in a final performance for families and friends!

Introducing our new Script Readers class! This is a 6-week class for adults where we look at various scripts and styles of storytelling and narrative structures. We will read numerous scripts that range from classics to comedies, straight plays to musicals, and everything in-between. This is an ideal class for you if you're looking to expand your knowledge on different playwrights and titles or if you're looking for a little inspiration for your own writing or even a title you'd like to direct one day! Scripts will be provided at each class.

Explore storytelling through the lens of musical theater! Singers and actors of any experience are welcome to this class. We will range from learning musical solos and duets to strengthening audition material. Students in this class will have the chance to research and pick songs from a wide range of musical theater material, particularly songs that feature great storytelling elements! Students may also bring musical theater material from their own audition book or repertoire to work on if they’d like. We will work with an accompanist to bring the music to life and then work through character motivation and understanding of song structure.

Ever wondered what it’s like to direct a play? Work solo or in pairs to direct a short scene or monologue with a local actor.
Learn how to interpret, block, and shape your piece while effectively communicating with your actors.

Generations in Verse is BACK! Join our intergenerational spoken word poetry group, facilitated by former poet laureate of Portland, Maine, Maya Williams. Learn to write, refine, and perform impactful poetry while connecting with others. Participants will work on their pieces and contribute to a collective performance for the end of the program. The program ends with a live ticketed performance on March 20th at the Playhouse, where you’ll showcase your growth. Open to anyone 10 and older, this program encourages storytelling, self-expression, and building confidence. Whether you're experienced or a beginner, you’ll leave feeling inspired and proud of others and yourself.
