Performance Camp - Robin Hood!

Description:
Join us for an exciting week-long theater camp where students will dive into the world of Robin Hood, through a spoof adaptation! This immersive experience offers young performers the chance to explore their creativity and hone their acting skills. Throughout the week, participants will engage in workshops, rehearsals, and activities that focus on character development, stage presence, stage combat, choreography and collaboration. Guided by experienced director, Laura Morris, students will work together to bring this classic tale to life in a final performance for family and friends. Whether you're a seasoned actor or new to the stage, this camp promises an unforgettable journey into the extraordinary world of Robin Hood.

About the Instructor
After minoring in Theater at UMO, Laura acted professionally at the Dallas Theater Center, Indianapolis Rep and other venues before founding the Second Chance Foundation with the mission of helping youth make healthy decisions through theatrical school programs. She worked as a Theatrical Director with the Council for Drug Free Youth as well as founding the Master Acting Studio for Kids. After re-locating to Maine, she has taught theater and been involved in productions for Acorn Productions, Royal River Theater Company, Heartland Theatre, Crowbait Club and other venues. As the past Executive Director for the Be the Influence Coalition, she created and directed youth in theatrical programs that promote healthy decisions. Her favorite role is as mother to her amazing sons Ben and Josh!!!

Elementary Improv

Embark on a laughter-filled journey with our 4-day improv comedy camp! Over the course of this fun-packed week, participants will dip their toes in an array of improv comedy formats, from short to long form,skill-building exercises to classic comedy games. Suitable for everyone aged 8-11, our camp doesn't require any prior experience. Just bring along your innate creativity and be prepared to revel in loads of laughter! Through the magical world of improv comedy, this camp will foster a host of skills and experiences, from friend-making and mindfulness to active listening and risk-taking. Additionally, our hilarious camp endeavors to inculcate a sense of not taking oneself too seriously and make ample time for some uninhibited fun and play! Story to Stage: Early Childhood Exploration Camp

Description:
Story To Stage Camp, where students have the chance to bring a tale from a book to life on the stage. Our camp focuses on cooperative play and learning through a variety of theatre games and jargon exploration, all aimed towards crafting a delightful performance for everyone to enjoy! Beyond acting, students will also have opportunities to dive into non-performing roles by crafting props, costumes and set pieces. Come, be part of our dramatic adventure!
About the Instructor
Arianna has a degree in Elementary Education. She is originally from Long Island, NY and now resides in Durham, ME. Previous acting credits include Perdita, The Winter’s Tale; Milky White, Into the Woods; Logan, The Thanksgiving Play (USM); and Darcy, Lockdown (Slemons). She recently designed and operated lights for USM's production of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. She also studies voice with Ed Reichert and Mary Bastoni. She is excited to be combining her love of theatre and her passion for teaching at RRCP this summer!

Clowning and Physical Comedy (Intermediate Skills Camp)

Description:
Clowning & Physical Comedy is back for another summer! Join one of our lead instructors, Tyler Costigan, as we dive into the techniques and structure of physical comedy performance. Camp participants will develop their own comedy routines centered around everyday activities. This camp invites us to find humor in the world around us and teaches us to be able to laugh at ourselves while inviting others to do the same. Participants will work on their routines during (and outside!) of camp and will spend the week refining their comedic skills!
About the Instructor
Tyler Costigan has been performing for stage and screen for over 30 years, most recently with Mad Horse Theatre in South Portland. Tyler spent the summer of 2022 at the Celebration Barn Theater, training in Advanced Eccentric Performance under the instruction of Avner (“The Eccentric”) Eisenberg, and performed at the Barn's 50th Anniversary celebration alongside some of the world's funniest people. In 2018 Tyler discovered his passion for teaching young performers and has since led workshops at True North Theatre, Ten Bucks Theatre, and The Grand. He served for one year as the theatre director at Ellsworth Middle School, and has just finished his second year as director at Jordan Small Middle School in Raymond.

Performance Camp - Treasure Island!

Description:
Join us for our swashbuckling adventure aboard the Hispaniola! Our July Performance Camp offering takes us back to the time of pirates and buried treasure! Follow Jim Hawkins, Long John Silver, and an abundance of pirates as we put together Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale in a week. Camp participants will get to learn about stage combat, classic literature and collaboration as we work to transform our performance space into a variety of settings, including a pirate ship, a mysterious island, and more! Roles in the show will be assigned at random, and each participant will focus on character development and work as an ensemble to tell this story collectively!
About the Instructor
Caleb is an experienced actor and theater educator with a B.A. in Theater from SUNY Plattsburgh. He specializes in youth-focused theater, having worked with the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine as a performer, stage manager, technical theater intern, and after-school program educator. Caleb is passionate about helping young artists build creativity, confidence, and teamwork. He has directed youth productions including *Annie Jr.* at Stages and *Tuck Everlasting* (TYA edition) at Gorham Middle School. Caleb builds supportive and empowering relationships with students, helping them grow as artists and individuals. Recent performance roles include Larry in The SpongeBob Musical (Lyric Music Theater), Gus in White (Mad Horse Theatre Company), and Wilbur in Charlotte’s Web (Maddy’s Theatre). Caleb looks forward to nurturing the next generation of performers through meaningful and enriching theater experiences.

Young Playmakers

Young Playmakers Camp is back by popular demand! Join us for a fun-filled week where children aged 8-12 can turn their creative ideas into lively performances. Campers will work independently or in teams to develop their own plays from start to finish, sharpening their skills in storytelling, acting, and teamwork. Throughout the camp, they'll enjoy engaging activities designed to inspire and entertain. Be part of the excitement and watch your ideas come to life on stage!

Camp Spotlight! Singing and Dancing (Intermediate Skills Camp)

Description:
Back by popular demand, Camp Spotlight (formerly Singing and Dancing) gets campers learning music and choreography from our favorite musicals. Each day we start with a vocal and movement warm up before we dive into learning the songs for our show that debuts and closes on the last day of camp! Opportunities for featured solos available by in camp audition. By the end of the week, campers will have learned 4-5 pieces of music to perform for their family and friends on the last day of camp. Join Lauren and Jake for a full week of signing and dancing!
About the Instructor
Jacob Boyce and Lauren Murphy are thrilled to be returning for their 5th summer with RRCP as co-teachers! Together, they bring a dynamic blend of expertise in dance, music, and theater.
Jacob is a professional drag performer and award-winning choreographer with a BA in Dance from The Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance. He has spent a decade choreographing musical theater for schools across Maine, and teaches at his private studio in Portland’s State Theatre Building. Outside of teaching, Jacob produces and performs at local drag residencies.
Lauren, a passionate music educator since 2013, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Southern Maine. She directs and music directs for community theater, and currently performs with the Portland-based a cappella group “The Pine State Pitches.” Lauren is delighted to return to RRCP, bringing her love of music and theater to camp.

Costume Party!

Our Costume Party camp will dive into the various worlds of fantasy and history as we costume a different world each day! Participants will learn about different time periods, along with fantasy worlds and theatrical tales, and we will dive into our costume stock and pull costumes that will fit for each world. Participants can decide if they want to wear the costumes or just have a hand in picking and designing, and each day will bring a fun and exciting new challenge! This camp will spark their imagination and creativity while also encouraging them to advocate for themselves and their artistic choices!

Performance Camp - The Tempest!

Description:
Get ready to dive into Shakespeare for the summer! Our Performance Camp, centered on The Tempest, will offer participants an introduction to Shakespeare through an easy and quick adaptation of one of his later comedies. The Tempest focuses on a shipwreck and a storm leading to an island, abound with magic and mystery where characters encounter mystical creatures and face old rivals and friends. Participants will get to tackle roles with physical comedy, lengthy dialogue, and even audience participation! Participants will be given roles picked at random and at the end of the week, we will present the show for friends and family.

Musical Theater Camp

Our Musical Theater Camp welcomes kids of all skill levels and backgrounds into the world of musical theater! Each day we will work on a song from a Broadway musical, where we will learn the music and then put it on its feet with choreography and blocking! We will look at a variety of musicals, spanning from the Golden Age of the 1950s all the way to the present day! Our camp will conclude at the end of the week with a showcase of the songs we’ve worked on for friends and family. This is a perfect introductory experience for kids who are interested in tapping into their musical and performance skills.

Advanced Acting: How to Stop Acting (Advanced Skills Camp)

How to Stop Acting is a camp offering centered around advanced techniques in acting and performance. This camp welcomes participants who have experience performing and challenges them to think critically about how they embody characters and surroundings on stage. Through exercises and scene studies, participants will strengthen their skills around accessing emotions, developing character and memory skills that will pave the way to truthful performances.

In celebration of David Ray's lifelong dedication to education and his love of community theatre, we have created this fund to ensure our programs are accessible to everyone in our community, providing universal access to the arts. For those who find tuition costs prohibitive, we offer both partial (50%) and full scholarships. These scholarships are made possible through the generous contributions of our neighbors, guaranteeing that theater education remains within reach for all.
Redund Policy
To uphold our student-to-instructor ratio, a minimum enrollment is necessary for our classes to proceed. In order to guarantee that this is met, refunds or credits for summer camps cannot be issued after April 30th. However, if the camp happens to be cancelled, a full refund will be given.
