Acting for Camera

Mark J. Parker is an acting & media coach, award-winning filmmaker, casting director, digital content creator, podcaster, and SAG-AFTRA actor. After living in New York for 14 years, he moved to Kittery in 2020. Mark has worked on TV series and films throughout the years, from broadcast series 30 Rock and Ugly Betty to cable series Celebrity Ghost Stories and talk shows Live! With Regis & Kelly and Wendy Williams. He cast 7 seasons of the ABC hidden camera series What Would You Do? and has cast other TV, digital content, and independent films - including a few in Maine! His short films are available to watch online, while one of his films, Twin, is currently on the film festival circuit until the fall. Mark's voice is heard on podcasts Release Date Rewind, Clocktower Players Jubilee Podcast Theater, interACT Audio Productions, Add This To Your List, and more. He last performed in a virtual production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof as Dr. Baugh with Acorn Productions. He graduated from Fordham University and received a certificate in Producing from NYU’s School of Professional Studies. Some of Mark's students have gone on to sign with a talent agent or manager, audition for film and TV, and book roles on Saturday Night Live, Sesame Street, and much more.

KIDS ON-CAMERA ACTING

This fun and informative workshop taught by casting director, filmmaker, and coach Mark J. Parker will focus on acting for the camera, which is different than acting on stage. Children will be assigned commercials and short scenes from Disney and Nickelodeon, plus there will be improv exercises to stretch your imagination and challenge you to think on your feet and listen to each other. All children will need to be comfortable reading out loud on camera and interacting with others. Don't be shy! Scenes will be recorded and sent to you after class so you can watch your clips. Both beginners and children with performing experience are welcome. Ages 8 to 12

TEEN ON-CAMERA ACTING

Ages: 13 - 18

Want to get more practice in front of the camera? Now's your chance to join casting director, filmmaker, and coach Mark J. Parker in a fun and informative workshop about on-camera acting. Teens will work on scenes from recent TV shows and films, ranging from Stranger Things to Riverdale to The Baby-Sitters Club and more, plus improv exercises to stretch your imagination and challenge you to think on your feet. The techniques taught in this workshop will be different from stage acting, as actors will try to ground their acting in natural, truthful performances while hitting their mark for the camera. Scenes will be recorded and sent to you after class so you can watch your clips. Both beginners and experienced performers are welcome. Ages 13 to 18.

Get a stronger understanding of on-camera acting in this fun and informative workshop with casting director, filmmaker, and coach Mark J. Parker. Not only will adults in this class work on grounding their performances in realism, bringing truth to their characters and letting go of the theatricality needed on stage, but also will learn tips for auditioning on camera. Scenes will be assigned from films and TV shows, including recent award winners, plus there will be improv exercises to challenge you. Scenes will be recorded and sent to you after class so you can  watch your clips. Both beginners and experienced performers are welcome. Ages 18 and up.
