EXPLORING
MUSICAL THEATER

Our online enrollment period is now closed. Please email admin@royalrivercommunityplayers.com with questions.

EXPLORING MUSICAL THEATER is an 11-week course taught by actor/director/choreographer Kristi Grand.

In this course, we will take a deep dive into character exploration, musicality and how we apply that to our performances. Participants will learn key audition techniques, expand their knowledge in individual and ensemble performance, stage presence, facial expressions and emoting, memorization, and vocal confidence. Participants will learn several group numbers and have the opportunity to perfect individual performance selections (vocal/monologue/scene work). At the end, students will perform in a showcase weekend for family, friends and the public. Four sessions are offered: beginner and intermediate/advanced for ages 8-11 and beginner and intermediate/advanced for ages 12-16.

The BEGINNER course is intended for students with 0-1 year of theater experience. Some previous theater training (a camp, a class, or a show) is helpful but not necessary. Enthusiasm and an interest in performing are the most important qualities for this class.

The INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED course is intended for students with 2+ years of previous theater training (or 2+ shows). These students should already be familiar with basic concepts like blocking, projection and stage directions and should come ready to dive into the material.

Limit 15 students per class.
